FRAME

Okay so for my first project my teacher instructed us to shoot about 300 photos in a weekend. He wanted us to concentrate on Frame...in other words how we arranged different objects in the picture. His point was that in photography, we choose what we want to show in the image...it can make or break the strength of the final picture. We then had to edit our 300 down to 15 for a slideshow, which was shown to the class (*ducks head in shame*). Then we edited and made 3 perfect prints. So here are the 3 that I decided to print.

First off I'm angry at myself for not having perfect prints. All 3 of them have a color cast. No thanks to the mixed lighting that I have a tendancy to use. Everything always looks so much better on the back of the camera...and then you get it into photoshop and start editing and realize that it really wasn't that great of a shot.

The first image here is of my roommate Valerie and our friend Tim. We were having a midnight dinner at the local Diner, Jay's. The food is terrible for you, but it's still food when there is nothing else open. It's also great when you just feel like being relaxed with your friends. The waitresses manage to neglect their tables, so you dont see them duing your meal...unless they are getting you food. But in several of the photos from Jay's I was trying to figure out the TTY setting on my flash so that it would fire wirelessly with my on camera flash. I got it to work which was neat. Although not for this picture. This one was long exposure with the camera sitting on the table across from ours. I love how both Val and Tim are wearing white shirts. It makes it hard to tell the time period of the photograph. It's also interesting to me that both of their hair is long so it's more difficult to tell if they are 2 girls or a guy and a girl. Interesting.

The second picture is Sniper about to jump out of 3 story high window. He wasn't actually jumping out. We had just finished a lesson and he was yelling to a couple of the students down on the street. It just so happened that as soon as this was taken, the window closed on his shouler...I laughed because I found it to be hilarious. I love the angle of the shot, and I like the use of flash. It really fills in all the shadows. I just like how it ended up...it was a pain to color balance though.

The last one here is a photograph of an espresso machine in the center of Java's. Java's is this great artsy coffee shop in the center of town. All the Eastman and U of R kids hang out there. Again there was mixed lighting so the colors are off. This was also a long exposure shot so you can see the worker who is bending down in the background. He's really blurry, but at the same time you can see the lines o his movement. I think it adds a lot to the image...it shows that the cofee shop is still a busy place, eventhough people go there to relax. Although I was definatly not relaxed when I was there...I was so worried about getting all of these pictures taken...and I was running out of time.

Mmk that's it for this project. I'm thinking about adding stuff in here about my 2D class as well. It's still work that I'm spending all my spare time on, so I'm thinking about including it as well.
