So I've started shooting this Fashion project. I'm really loving it. I feel like I can really experiment with the lighting and I'm doing what I can to improve my lighting skills. I'm practicing a lot with rim lighting, as you can see. I'm interested in how the light curls around a subject when you place it behind them. Plus it makes them glow. I don't know, I guess I just feel like the rim light is something special that you don't see everyday. It sets a certain mood. Anywho...
This first photograph is from a group of images I shot earlier today. My model was absolutely PERFECT! Isn't she beautiful? We went through a couple of different looks, and for each one she completely changed her character. It was a great experience for us both. I really hope that I get to shoot her again in the future! So while my model was great, I had so many struggles with the lighting kit. Apparently, my kit only had one plug, so I could only use one of the lights. (I'm so screwed when I return it to the cage!). So to get the rim light, I had to rely on quick thinking and I ended up using my off camera flash. I had to literally duct-tape it to the top of my tripod. Even my model thought it was pretty ghetto...but then again, the lighting is wonderful, so who cares what the set up looked like? It's the final image that counts.
The photograph below that was taken in the studio (obviously). I went in yesterday and attempted to do my model's make up. Ha, as I believe I've mentioned in previous posts...don't let me touch your face. I'm so horrible at makeup. So my makeup job was terrible, so we had to re-do it. But when we finally had something that I could deal with, it had already been an hour. The actual shooting went really well. I feel like I've learned a lot from my teacher about studio lighting this quarter. And I've really been studying other artists work, so while I don't quite have that perfection that the magazines have, my lighting is definitely getting better.
What do you think? (Okay so blogger isn't uploading pictures at the moment...i'm going to try again in an hour...)
